DIY: Patron Vases

Saturday, June 29, 2013
Items necessary for this project:
Fake flowers (I found these at Ikea for .99 cents a piece!)

Scissors, razor blade & a vase filler of your choice.  I chose sea glass (found at Target) & aquarium rocks (found at Michael's Arts & Crafts).
A Patron bottle.  Decide which suits you best as all three differ in their shape & texture.

Step 1: Using a wet paper towel or cloth, dampen the stickers on the bottle.  Next, using the razor blade, scrape off the remainder of the labels on the bottle.
This should result in a nice clean bottle free of Patron labels.

Step 2:  Fill the bottle full of the sea glass or whatever filler you have chosen.  Note: If using sea glass, some of the pieces may be too large to fit through the opening of the bottle.  Use a hammer to break these larger chunks of glass into smaller pieces so they may fit through the opening.

This should result in a bottle full of sea glass.  It is your choice as to how much you fill the vase.  For this one, I chose to fill it completely to the top.

Step 3: Cut the flower to your desired length.  For the Patron bottle, I chose to cut the flowers very short so that they barely stick out of the neck of the bottle.

Step 4:  Arrange the flowers so that they are very close to each other.
                                                                     Final Products!
Using sea glass filling entire bottle.

Using aquarium rocks layering two different colors.

Using sea glass filling bottle only halfway so that the stems of the flowers are very visible.

Hi!  Happy Saturday everyone.  Here is a fun simple project to brighten your home.  I owe this idea to my dear friend Chelsea.  Follow the instructions & in no time at all, you will have a great vase!  xoxo.

Hello & happy Wednesday friends.  Haven't been on in quite some time...I guess you could say I have taken a little summer vaca from the internet ha.  With my creative juices running rampant through my on-going redecoration of my condo, it seems on a daily basis that I simply run out of time.  I mean the summer solstice has already passed & its almost the 4th!  (Like s**t.)
On another note, I have to say how much I am in love with blue.  Blue is definitely a color that looks fantastic on everyone.  There is such a wide variety of shades that it seems blue can amazingly compliment every skin tone, hair color & eye color.  The Polish man is always saying I should wear more blue because according to him "blue looks best on blondes."  But it has never been a color I readily purchase.  This summer season however, it seems I have fallen in love with indigo & royal.  The shades are so dark, while the pigment remains quite vibrant.  Not to mention they pair very well with neon & white for summer.  (Anyone who knows me is very aware of my love of neon.)  With that said, blue has been added to my list of all-time favorite colors.
Talk to ya Saturday with a new DIY for your home.
~ps~Like my sunnies?  Go grab a pair for yourself while they're on sale on overstock!  Seriously a super  steal.

If you aren't already aware, I'm a bit of a history nut.  Ok, I'm an extreme history nut.  Thus, you can see why the quiet island of Ocracoke in the Outer Banks was a must visit for me.  From Hatteras Island, you catch an hour long ferry (cars & all ha) to Ocracoke.  Once you arrive, you feel as though you have taken a step back in time.  Its relaxed atmosphere filled with charming cottages is more than perfect for a getaway from the real world.  But, don't let this quaintness fool you.  Before it was settled in 1750, pirates ruled the land.
The most famous of these pirates of whom called this place home in between traveling the seas was the legendary Blackbeard.  Originating from England, his real name was Edward Teach.  He stood very tall & rocked a long black beard, striking fear into those who would cross his path.  It is said that he would light fuses that would smoke in his beard, as well as placing burning rope under his hat when entering battle to frighten his opponent.  He was killed in Ocracoke in 1718 during battle by one of Lt. Robert Maynard's men of the Royal Navy.  His head, which was chopped off, was taken & hung on the bow of Maynard's sloop to warn pirates of their evil ways.  And his body?  Well, it was thrown into the Pamlico Sound where his headless body was said to have swam around the boat seven times seeking revenge.  His treasure? Never found & still lies hidden in the Outer Banks.  So, my history was a bit gruesome.  But, who doesn't enjoy a great pirate tale?
The pretty little island is now a fishing town with most of the livelihood sourcing from that of tourism.  It's population is less than a 1,000...so you can only imagine how quaint & tiny Ocracoke actually is.  As you can see, its perfect for a bike ride or three.
