Happy Thursday fashion friends. Here are a handful of pics from a day in the Outer Banks. For those of you who may not know, the Outer Banks-also referred to as the OBX-are a chain of barrier islands that run for 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina & a small portion of Virginia. They begin in the southeastern corner of Virginia Beach & run north. The pictures above are a mixture of a day in Southern Shores, (Bodie Island) & our visit to the isolated island of Ocracoke. Some of you may recognize the name Kitty Hawk as the location where the Wright Brothers first flight took place in December 1903. (You can visit the National Monument today in Kill Devil Hills.) Another interesting fact? The OBX was also home to the famous English Roanoke Colony colonized by Queen Elizabeth I during the 16th century that mysteriously vanished. The island, present-day Roanoke Island, thus named after the vanished colony, is located in Dare County named after Virginia Dare-the 1st child to be born in the Americas.
The beaches there are quite beautiful... with waves & seagrass for miles. (Eh-a lot different to what I'm use to in South Florida ha.) The weather is hot & humid in the summer, but often changing. As you can see, a breezy morning of searching for sea glass def called for a lightweight denim jacket. But, as the day progressed, the sun was shining & a hat was a necessity for a bicycle ride. The islands are full of yummy places to drink & dine. If you manage to make it out that way...don't forget to stop at John's Drive-In on the beach for quite possibly the best dolphin boat & milkshake around.
That looks like such a fun trip! I love how you styled your hat with the denim and those adorable yellow kicks! xoxo, BA
